The idea began simply—with a batch of homemade tacos at the Martin household. Husband Eo Martin often cooked for family and friends, and one night, after tasting his latest creation, his wife, Ozzy Martin, joked, “These are so good, we should open a taco place.”

That bit of wishful thinking became a real opportunity when the historic Anastos Corner property became available. The Martins, who live locally in Hull, purchased the space, transformed it through extensive renovations, and opened California Underground at the end of 2016.

In 2026, California Underground expanded beyond lunch and dinner with the addition of breakfast, bringing the same creativity and commitment to fresh ingredients to the morning table. Today, guests can enjoy everything from satisfying breakfast classics to California-inspired specialties, making California Underground a destination from morning through night.
